Do you like sweet and boozy cocktails? Do you like to drink those in a bar? Then wear Carolina Herrera CH Men Privé to complete the experience!
I guess a good drink is comparable to a good fragrance because they are both sensory experiences. One for the tongue and one for the nose, although we humans actually do a lot of tasting with our nose. And scents that are meant to evoke drinks are nothing new, think about Mugler A*Men Pure Malt (whisky), Yves Saint Laurent M7 (red wine) or Moscow Mule by Juliette has a Gun (which smells like? you’ve guessed it!). Especially whisky is a note used often in fragrances. But most of these fragrances are quite heavy, on the other hand CH Men Privé is quite light after the opening has dried down.
What Carolina Herrera CH Men Privé smells like
CH Men Privé contains notes of grapefruit, lavender, cardamom, whiskey, vetiver, leather, benzoin and tonka bean.
The drink I would compare Carolina Herrera CH Men Privé most to is an Old Fashioned. An Old Fashioned cocktail is made with whisky, sugar syrup and Angostura bitters. CH Men Privé is very sugary, contains a whisky note and a bit of bitterness from the grapefruit. And like an Old Fashioned it is lighter than you would expect.
Yes, I am in marketing and I have watched the tv show Mad Men so I know that they drink Old Fashioneds a lot in that show. And yes, I have had Old Fashioneds because of this reason so I know quite well what they taste like. I like ‘m.
Anyway, CH Men Privé has monster projection the first few moments after spraying it on but this dies down quickly to more acceptable levels. (Sometimes I like to clear the room, but mostly not.) Longevity is good on my skin, and the further in the dry down you get the more it resembles the original CH Men.
I haven’t had much experience with the original CH Men and I don’t own a bottle. But I have worn it and remember the sweetness of it, like it literally smells like sugar in the drydown, and the grassyness of the vetiver. For CH Men Privé the grass was replaced with booze.
Actually, when I think about it, CH Men Privé smells mostly like a boozed-up version of Givenchy Pi. It compares more to Pi than it does to the original. Like a Pi that spend a night on the town and had one too many drinks. I wouldn’t compare the original CH Men to Pi which although it’s also sugary differentiates itself with the vetiver note. But for me the comparison between CH Men Privé and Givenchy Pi is apt because of the sugary rush it delivers.
Final thoughts on Carolina Herrera CH Men Privé
I think that CH Men Privé is a very suitable scent to wear in a bar. Not only because it’s comparable to a sweet and boozy drink but also because it’s a very pleasant fragrance. Wear this and you’ll be a welcome guest at your local watering hole.
